It was a big weekend for Nebraska high school rodeo with rodeo performances on Saturday and Sunday in Nelson and on Labor Day in Grand Island.
Recapping some of the area highlights, Broken Bow’s Kelstyn Lindner was the boys all-around champion both Sunday and Monday and was third in the boys all around on Saturday. Lindner won the bull riding and bareback competition at all three rodeos. Lindner added top five finishes in the tie down roping on both Sunday and Monday.
Mullen’s Brynne McCully had a strong showing on Labor Day in Grand Island finishing third in the girls all around standings. McCully was runner-up in the pole bending and teamed with Caleb Clark of Thedford to place third in the team roping. McCully also had a runner-up finish in the breakaway roping on Saturday.
Other area highlights from the holiday weekend included Kallan Cox of Purdum winning the barrel racing on Sunday with a time of 15.525 seconds and finishing third in the girls all around. Cotter Johnston of Stapleton was the steer wrestling champion both Saturday and Sunday with winning times of 5.3 and 5.63 seconds respectively. Aaron Hall of Halsey was the steer wrestling champion at the Grand Island performance with a winning time of 5.59 seconds. Shaylee Milleson of Dunning was runner-up in the pole bending on Sunday.
