The 2024 Nebraska high school rodeo fall season began this past weekend with performances at the Rock County Fair Grounds in Bassett. It was a big opening weekend for freshman Cotter Johnston of Stapleton who claimed the boys all around title. Johnston opened the weekend on Saturday with runner up finishes in the tie down roping and steer wrestling and was 4th in the team roping with partner Cayson Johnston. On Sunday, Cotter won the steer wrestling with a winning time of 4.87 seconds, won the team roping with Cayson Johnston in a time of 6.3 seconds and was third in the tie down roping.
Other area highlights from the weekend included Colton Leach of Dunning winning the tie down roping on Saturday in a time of 10.76 seconds. Colter Austin and Tate Johnston of Thedford won the team roping Saturday in a time of 6.65 seconds and Anna Clark of Thedford was the barrel racing champion Saturday with a time of 18.243 seconds.
