Nebraska High School Finals Rodeo – Area Preview

The Nebraska High School Finals Rodeo takes place this week in Burwell, NE. Contestants will look to add to their point total for the year as they attempt to qualify for the National High School Finals Rodeo which will take place July 14-20 at the Sweetwater Events Center in Rock Springs, WY. The top four in the final standings of each rodeo event will qualify for the national finals and represent team Nebraska.

Koltdyn Heath of Minden leads the cowboy all around standings heading into the state finals. Cayson Johnston of Stapleton is in the top ten of the all around standings sitting 6th overall entering this week’s finals. The cowgirl all around standings is led by Reagan McIntyre of Grand Island.

Area notes heading into the finals, Anna Clark of Thedford currently sits 2nd overall in the barrel racing just 28 points behind the leader Hailey Witte of Valentine. Kallan Cox of Purdum sits 7th in the barrels and is just 12 points outside the top four.

Haylea Miller of Merna and Gracyn Hicks of Burwell are both in the top five of the girls cutting standings. Miller is 4th just two points outside the top three while Hicks sits 5th just 6.5 points outside the top four.

Dawson Doggett of Callaway is 2nd in the steer wrestling standings entering the finals and is just seven points behind the leader Wyatt Reichenberg of Harrisburg. Carson Cooksley of Elsmere is 20 points behind Doggett in third and Cayson Johnston of Stapleton is just two points behind Cooksley sitting 4th overall in the steer wrestling standings.

Emmett Sortum of Taylor is atop the tie down roping standings with 120 points. Two other area cowboys are currently in the top five. Zachary Miller of Callaway is 4th, just 1.5 points outside the top three, while Cayson Johnston of Stapleton is 5th and is 9.5 points outside the top four.

The Nebraska High School finals rodeo begins Thursday with the first go round. The second go round is on Friday with the short go scheduled for Saturday at 1 p.m.
