Mullen Wins District Title / Ansley/Litchfield Finishes Season as District Runner-up

The Mullen Broncos qualified for the boys state basketball tournament Tuesday night with a 52-37 win over Potter-Dix in the D2-8 district championship game at Hershey.  Mullen qualifies for the state tournament for the third straight year and for the fifth time in the last six years.  Mullen was led by Trevor Kuncl and Clayton Moore.  Mullen’s top two scorers during the season each had big games with Kuncl finishing with a game high 21 points including four 3’s.  Clayton Moore had 19 points including three 3’s.  Mullen is now 18-8 on the season and will play their first round state tournament game on Tuesday (3/2).  All Mullen games from the boys state tournament will be broadcast on KBBN 95.3 FM.

Ansley/Litchfield saw its season come to an end Tuesday as they fell to North Platte St. Pat’s 55-39 at the D1-1 district championship game in Cozad.  The game was closer than the final score may indicate.  The Spartans hung right with the top seeded Irish.  Ansley/Litchfield held St. Pat’s leading scorers Jack Heiss and Brecken Erickson to a combined 15 points but others stepped up for the Irish including Samuel Troshynski who had a team high 15.  A/L stayed within striking distance for most of the game but St. Pat’s pulled away late as they went 7 of 11 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter to help seal the win.  Ansley/Litchfield was led by Leyton Rohde who had a team high 15 points and Calvin Finley also finished in double figures with 10 points.  The Spartans conclude the season at 17-8.
