MPCC Rodeo Teams Finish Top Two at Jackrabbit Stampede

Brookings, S.D. – The Mid-Plains Community College rodeo teams returned to competition this past weekend at the Jackrabbit Stampede hosted by South Dakota State University.

The women’s team claimed the team title after strong performances from Whitney Jennings and Laynee Ohm. The No. 4 nationally ranked men’s team closed out the rodeo with a second-place finish in the team standings.

Jennings alongside teammate Aiden-Buzzy Augustiro placed third in team roping event with a time of 23.5 seconds. Ohm added a third-place finish in goat tying with a time of 13.9 seconds, while Bailey Sproat placed seventh in breakaway roping.

Kahiwa Augustiro recorded two top five finishes over the weekend, placing third in bareback and second in steer wrestling. Teammate Jackson Lunn finished just ahead of his teammate in the bareback event with a score of 147.

Koy McAllister captured the gold buckle in saddle bronc, while Wyatt Davis once again stood alone as the only cowboy to complete a ride, earning the jackpot for the second consecutive week.

Rodeo teams return to the arena April 24-25 for the Will Lantis Yellow Jacket Stampede hosted by Black Hills State University in Spearfish, S.D.
