MPCC Rodeo Teams Dominate at Blue Hawk Stampede / Area Cowboys Miller, Phillips, and Johnston Deliver Strong Performances

Dickinson, N.D. – The Mid-Plains Community College men’s and women’s rodeo teams brought home team titles from the Blue Hawk Stampede Rodeo, hosted by Dickinson State University this past weekend. The men’s team earned an impressive 1,245 points, while the women’s team secured the title with 300 points.

Kahiwa Augustiro claimed the all-around title, highlighted by a first place finish in team roping alongside teammate Jace Richter, as well as third place finishes in both bareback and bull riding.

Richter kept up the dominant performance going on the men’s side with a second-place finish in the tie-down roping event. Jackson Lunn took home the gold buckle in bareback with a total of 150 points.

Koy McAllister added to the team’s success with a second place finish in saddle bronc and an eighth place finish in steer wrestling. Broken Bow grad Matt Miller rounded out the men’s dominant performance by earning the gold buckle in tie-down roping.

On the women’s side, Laynee Ohm earned the reserve all-around title after finishing third in goat tying and breakaway roping events. Teammates Bailey Barker and Samantha Gerlach contributed valuable points with sixth place finishes in breakaway roping and barrel racing, respectively.

The MPCC Rodeo Team will return to the arena for the Mystic Stampede at the Dale Pahlke Arena in Mandan, N.D., Oct. 3-4.

In other area notes, Cooper Phillips of Burwell, competing for the University of Nebraska/Lincoln finished third in the tie down roping and Cayson Johnston of Stapleton competing for UNL finished seventh in steer wrestling.
