MNAC Basketball Tournament Semifinals Today on KBBN / Video Stream

The semifinals of the Mid Nebraska Activities Conference girls and boys basketball tournaments will take place today at North Platte Community College.  The girls semifinals will be first up today.  Game one will tip off at 3 p.m. and will feature the #3 seed South Loup and the surprise of the tournament thus far Sandhills Valley.  Sandhills Valley entered the tournament as the #7 seed and played their way into the quarterfinals by defeating Cody Kilgore 33-26 and then knocked off the #2 seed Anselmo-Merna in the quarters 50-47.  South Loup posted an impressive 45-16 win over Hyannis in the quarters to advance to the semifinal round.  The two teams met each other earlier in the season at the Maxwell Booster Club holiday tournament with South Loup winning 48-27. The second girls semifinal features the top seed Sandhills/Thedford against the #5 seed Twin Loup.  Sandhills/Thedford advanced with a 41-21 win over Arthur County in the quarterfinals while Twin Loup advanced with a 41-35 win over the #4 seed Mullen.  This will be the second meeting of the season between the two as they met way back at the beginning of the season on December 3rd with Twin Loup winning 36-33.

Today’s boys semifinals are scheduled to tip off at 6 p.m.  The first semifinal features Mullen against Hyannis.  The Broncos advanced to the semis with a 40-33 win over Brady and Hyannis advanced with a 49-40 win over Sandhills Valley.  It sets up to be a great semifinal as Mullen enters at 10-3 on the season and Hyannis enters at 9-2.  The two met back in December with Mullen winning by the slimmest of margins 35-34.  The second of the boys semifinals features the top seed South Loup against Sandhills/Thedford.  South Loup defeated Arthur County in the quarterfinals 67-28 and Sandhills/Thedford advanced with a 57-49 win over Cody Kilgore.  South Loup is 12-2 this season and ranked #6 by the Omaha World Herald in Class D1.  Sandhills/Thedford enters at 9-4 overall.  The two met back on January 5th with South Loup winning 58-33.
