As we progress through the spring and summer approaches, the Broken Bow American Legion Seniors baseball team is preparing for the start of a new season. On Wednesday, members of the team stopped by the KBBN studio to visit about the upcoming season. Visiting with KCNI/KBBN Sports Director Brent Apperson were Dominic Nowak, Kanzas Kellum, Kayden Record, and Colton Uhlig. All four shared what part of their game has shown the most growth during their time in the program.
Kanzas : For me, I’ve always took my fielding seriously. It’s been a priority for me. So it’s something that I’ve really worked on for a long time and something that I’ve grown probably the most.
Kayden : Well, about two years ago we were having a little bit of a catcher struggle. I’ve never played catcher in my life so I was like, well Kyle, I’ll go back there and catch. So he let me catch one game and I think I’ve pretty much played catcher every game since then. Yeah.
Dom : I’d probably say my hitting, honestly. I think my pitching and fielding can speak for itself. But I think when you go through that slump it kind of tears you down but right when I get back out of it, it’s just like the world is giving me free hits at this point.
Colton : Definitely in the field and in the outfield.
Josh Page is helping serve as the manager of the program this season. He shared with KCNI/KBBN sports the details of an upcoming event at Paul Brown Field.
“We’re going to have a movie night at the ballpark and would like to invite anyone and everyone. The cost for admission is a free will donation. So it kind of ties in with what you asked about being a fundraiser. We’re going to show “Rookie of the Year” on two big projection screens. And we’re going to have the concession stand open so you can get your popcorn, your hot dogs and maybe a burger on May 16th at 7 p.m. is when the festivities will start. And the plan is right now to have the color guard come out and present the colors and have the greatest feature of Paul Brown up in the air, which is that big American flag in center field. We’ll have the national anthem and encourage everybody to bring lawn chairs, blankets, whatever.”
The Bow seniors are scheduled to start their season on May 24th when they travel to Ogallala.
