Loup City, S-E-M, Ord compete in Fall state Esports tournament

FREMONT, Neb. — The Nebraska Schools Esports Association’s Fall State Tournament was held this past Friday and Saturday, with teams from across the state converging at Midland University in Fremont for competition in Marvel Rivals, Rocket League, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Students from Loup City, Sumner-Eddyville-Miller (S-E-M), and Ord were among those competing.

Freshman Teylor Goc of Loup City brought a 7-2 record into Super Smash Bros. competition. Goc tallied a win over an opponent from Hay Springs before falling to competition from Scribner Snyder and Silver Lake in the double elimination 1v1 tournament.

S-E-M competed as a team in Division 4 of Marvel Rivals and Rocket League and had two individuals play in the Super Smash Bros. 1v1 bracket.

In Marvel Rivals, the S-E-M team of Autumn Davis, Owen Schroeder, Sarah Gonzalez, Waylon Reed, Dylanger Schledewitz, and Behrenger Hoos (with subs Colten Schreiner and Sam Venegas-Villezcas) placed second after a defeat of Scribner Snyder and falling to #1 seed Franklin.

In Rocket League, the S-E-M team of Sam Venegas-Villezcas, Wyatt Boon, and Colten Schreiner placed fourth after losses to Bancroft-Rosalie and Walthill.

S-E-M’s Waylon Reed went 3-1 in individual Smash Bros. competition, good enough for 5th place.

Ord’s Dominic Rogers brought his 9-0 season record into the Smash Bros. bracket as the #2 seed in Division 3 play. Rogers backed up his high placement by going undefeated on the day to take home the state championship over 15 other competitors.
