Anselmo-Merna was runner-up at the AM volleyball tournament which they hosted Saturday. Anselmo-Merna defeated Cody-Kilgore in the opening round 25-19, 25-18. AM would then win over St. Mary’s of O’Neill in the semifinals 2 sets to 1. The Lady Coyotes won the opening set 25-22. St. Mary’s tied the match winning set 2 25-22 but AM would prevail in the third 25-19. Anselmo-Merna faced Axtell in the championship match. Axtell advanced to the final with wins over Riverside and Bertrand. Anselmo-Merna took the opening set over Axtell 25-22 but Axtell would win the 2nd 25-23 and win the third 25-10 to claim the championship. Mullen played in the fifth place match of the tournament. The Lady Broncos fell to St. Mary’s in the opening round but then defeated Cody-Kilgore in the consolation bracket. Mullen would face Riverside for fifth with Riverside winning 2 sets to 1 (25-23, 20-25, 25-17).
South Loup finished third at the ALC Rebel Tournament in Loup City on Saturday. South Loup defeated Arcadia/Loup City in the opening round 25-13, 25-15 but fell to Boyd County in the semifinals 29-27, 25-20. South Loup faced Fullerton in the third place match winning in straight sets. Centura won the tournament title winning in straight sets over Boyd County (25-14, 25-15)
