The opening day of the Southwest Conference volleyball tournament took place Monday at Cozad. The Broken Bow Lady Indians faced #3 seed Holdrege in the quarterfinal round. Holdrege took the best 2 out of 3 set match in straight sets 25-17, 25-22. The Lady Indians then faced Cozad in the consolation bracket. Broken Bow defeated Cozad in straight sets 25-21, 25-19. Olivia Neely led the way with twelve kills and Izabelle Tibbs had eight. McKenna Jacobsen and Halle Quinn each had a team high 13 digs and Jacobsen finished with 25 assists. Broken Bow will face McCook in the 5th place consolation match Tuesday afternoon at 3 p.m. back at Cozad. McCook fell to Gothenburg Monday in the quarterfinal round 2-0. In other SWC tournament action on Monday, top seed Ogallala held off Gothenburg 3-1 (25-27, 25-23, 25-18, 29-27) to advance to Tuesday’s championship match against Holdrege. Last year’s tournament champion is back in the title match again this year as the Dusters swept #2 seed Minden in the semifinals 25-22, 25-18, 25-18. Minden will face Gothenburg in the 3rd place consolation match on Tuesday.
