The opening round of the MNAC volleyball tournament took place Thursday with matches played at Mullen at Thedford. The top seed Mullen advanced to the semifinals with a straight set win over Sandhills Valley 25-5, 25-15. The Lady Broncos will face Anselmo-Merna in the semifinals. The Lady Coyotes held off Twin Loup 25-21, 25-22 to advance. On the other side of the bracket, the #6 seed South Loup knocked off Brady 2-1. Brady won the first set 25-17 but South Loup came back to with set #2 25-19 and won set #3 25-20 to advance. South Loup will face the #2 seed Sandhills/Thedford in the semifinals. The defending tournament champions advanced with a straight set win over Arthur County 25-15, 25-6. The final day of the tournament will take place Saturday at Anselmo-Merna beginning with consolation matches at 10 a.m. The championship semifinals are scheduled for 1:30 followed by the third place consolation and championship match. The semifinals, 3rd place consolation, and championship will be broadcast on KCNI 1280 AM / 96.3 FM / kcni1280.com. A live video stream of the matches, accompanied by the radio call will be available on the Sandhills Express Facebook Page and Sandhills Express You Tube Channel.
Ansley/Litchfield took the runner-up trophy at the Fort Kearny Conference volleyball tournament Thursday night in Kearney. The Lady Spartans fell to top seed Amherst in the championship match 25-21, 25-6, 25-13.
