The Mid Nebraska Activities Conference volleyball tournament began with opening round and quarterfinal matches on Thursday. At Callaway, the day began with Hyannis knocking off Cody-Kilgore 3-2 (18-25, 27-25, 25-19, 18-25, 16-14). With the win, Hyannis advanced to play the top seed South Loup. South Loup advanced to the semifinals with a straight set win over Hyannis 25-6, 25-2, 25-21. South Loup will face Sandhills/Thedford in the semifinal round Saturday. The Lady Knights came from 2 sets down to Arthur County to come back and win in a five set thriller 23-25, 13-25, 25-20, 25-22, 15-13. On the other side of the bracket at Anselmo-Merna high school, the night began with Brady collecting its ninth win of the season by defeating Mullen in straight sets 26-24, 25-15, 25-22. The win advanced Brady to the quarterfinal round where they faced the #2 seed Anselmo-Merna. The two battled in a five set thriller with Brady pulling off the upset 3-2 (25-19, 16-25, 13-25, 25-21, 15-10). Brady will face Twin Loup in the semifinals. The Lady Wolves defeated Sandhills Valley in straight sets 25-13, 25-13, 25-19.
Consolation matches, semifinals, and finals will take place at Broken Bow on Saturday, October 15th. The semifinals, beginning at 1 p.m. central, will be broadcast on KBBN 95.3 FM and kbbn.com. The third place consolation and championship match will be broadcast on KCNI 1280 AM / 96.3 FM and kcni1280.com.
