The Mullen Broncos remained unbeaten on the season with a 54-16 win over Hyannis. Mullen never trailed in the game as they built a 34-0 lead at halftime. Tate Kvanvig had three touchdown runs in the first half including a 36 yard scamper with 3:10 left in the second quarter. Nick Gonzalez had two touchdown runs in the second half for the Broncos including a 55 yard TD run. Mullen is now 5-0 on the season and will play at Maxwell next Friday.
Broken Bow fell to Cozad Friday night 35-14. Cozad scored on their opening drive of the game to go up 6-0 but Broken Bow responded when Zach Jackson broke loose for a 66 yard touchdown run to tie the game 6-6. In the 2nd quarter, Cozad came up with a defensive score on an interception return for a touchdown to go up 14-6 at halftime. The Haymakers received the 2nd half kickoff and scored on two plays to go up 21-7. After Broken Bow fumbled on their first play of the 2nd half, Cozad responded with another touchdown scoring 14 points in the opening minute of the third quarter to go up 28-14. The Indians would fight back putting together an 80 yard touchdown drive capped off by a one yard touchdown run by Ayden Clark to make the score 28-14. After a defensive stop, Broken Bow drove the ball to inside the Cozad 25 yard line but the Indians were held on fourth down. Cozad would add another touchdown in the 4th quarter to secure the win and improve to 3-2 on the season. Broken Bow drops to 1-4 and will return home next Friday to face Holdrege for homecoming at Mark Russell Field.
