High School Football Scores 9/2

The Broken Bow football team collected its first win of the season with a thrilling 20-14 win over Ogallala on Friday in their home opener at Mark Russell Field.  Bow was able to overcome five turnovers on the night.  The game was scoreless at halftime and then the two teams went back and forth in an exciting 2nd half.  Broken Bow scored on its second play of the 2nd half when Eli Coble hooked up with Brice Chaplin for a 93 yard TD pass which gave Broken Bow a 7-0 lead.  Ogallala would respond with a 78 yard touchdown drive and made good on the two point conversion to take a one point lead.  Broken Bow then marched 72 yards and scored right before the end of the 3rd quarter on a 12 yard TD run by quarterback Eli Coble to take a 14-8 lead.  It was then Ogallala’s turn to respond as they covered 75 yards and scored with 2:35 left in the 4th quarter.  However, Ogallala failed on the point after and the game was tied at 14.  The Bow offense took advantage of the time they had left in regulation as they moved down the field behind the power running of fullback Connor Wells.  With just under a minute remaining, Eli Coble would throw his 2nd TD pass of the night as he hooked up with Max Denson on a 33 yard touchdown pass to give Broken Bow a 20-14 lead and ultimately give Broken Bow its first win of the season.  The Indians will be on the road next week when they travel to McCook.

It was another tight battle between Ansley/Litchfield and Anselmo-Merna as the Coyotes held on for a 22-14 win.  It was tied 8-8 at halftime as Josiah Griffith scored on a 5 yd. touchdown run for AM and Ashton Behmerwold responded with a 5 yd. TD run for Ansley/Litchfield.  In the second half, AM quarterback Quinten Myers scored with 2:57 left in the 3rd quarter to give Anselmo-Merna the lead 16-8.  The scored stayed that way until 1:58 left in the 4th when Myers would score again to put AM up 22-8.  It turned into an exciting final two minutes as Ashton Behmerwold broke loose for a 75 yard TD run to bring the Spartans to within 22-14 with 1:45 left.  A/L would get that their hands on the ball one more time but the Coyote defense stiffened and AM held on for its first win of the season.  Anselmo-Merna will be at Central Valley next week and Ansley/Litchfield will host Pleasanton.
