In a battle of top ten teams in Class D2, South Loup held off Sandhills/Thedford Friday night 48-34. South Loup broke a 6-6 tie with two touchdowns in the final three minutes of the first half to take a 20-6 lead at halftime. In the second half, the teams went back and forth exchanging scores with South Loup hanging on in the end for the win. South Loup quarterback Trey Connell had a huge night for the Bobcats finishing with 307 rushing yards and 6 touchdowns. Connell also connected with Cache Gracey for a 50 yard touchdown pass. Sandhills/Thedford quarter back Kyle Cox led the offensive charge for the Knights with three touchdown passes and two touchdown runs. South Loup remains unbeaten as Sandhills/Thedford falls to 3-1 on the season.
Broken Bow collected its third win in a row with a 40-14 win over O’Neill on the road Friday night. Broken Bow controlled the game with its power running game. The Indians scored on four of its first five possessions to take a 27-0 lead in the first half. O’Neill would score right before halftime and on their opening possession of the second half to cut the Broken Bow lead to 27-14. Broken Bow would respond with 13 unanswered points to secure the win. Brice Chaplin had four rushing touchdowns while quarterback Eli Coble ran for a touchdown and had a touchdown pass to Ayden Clark to account for the Broken Bow scoring. The Indians are 3-1 on the season and will return home next Friday to face Cozad.
