The Broken Bow girls and boys basketball teams each opened the new year with thrilling wins over the Hershey Panthers. The Broken Bow Lady Indians improved to 7-1 with a 64-62 win. Broken Bow led by as many as nine in the first half but Hershey came back to take the lead at halftime 38-36. Broken Bow came back to outscore Hershey 13-5 in the third quarter. In the fourth, Hershey reclaimed the lead late but Broken Bow scored the final six points of the game to collect the win. Broken Bow had two players finish in double figures led by Gaby Staples who had a team high 16 points and Janae Marten finished with 14. The boys game was a back and forth affair as well. Broken Bow led 26-21 at half but Hershey outscored Broken Bow 19-10 in the third quarter to take a 40-36 lead into the fourth. The Indians would come back in the fourth to win 53-49 as Zach Jackson hit two free throws in the final seconds to seal the win. Braxtton Johnson led Broken Bow in scoring with 14 and Dominic Nowak also finished in double figures with 10 as the Broken Bow boys improved to 3-4 on the season.
