Grand Island (Juniors) and Central City (Seniors) Claim Mid-Nebraska League Titles

In American Legion baseball on Sunday, the Mid-Nebraska League, the league in which Broken Bow plays, hosted its juniors and seniors league championship games in Kearney.

The juniors championship game featured east division champion Grand Island vs west division champion Gothenburg.  Gothenburg led 3-2 after three innings but Grand Island scored nine unanswered runs, keyed by a five run sixth inning, to win 11-3 in six innings on the eight run rule after five.  Gothenburg finished with seven hits led by Jaxon Earll who finished 2 for 2 with two runs scored. Judd Arends drove in three runs and Jackson O’Hara finished 2 for 3 with two runs scored and two RBI to help lead Grand Island.

The seniors championship game featured east division champion Central City vs west division champion McCook.  McCook’s Kooper Rakes hit a solo homerun in the top of the first but that would end up being the only run McCook would score as Central City quickly responded in the bottom of the first with three runs on their way to a 9-1 win in five innings on the eight run rule after five.  Colbyn Peters pitched a complete game for Central City giving up just one run on four hits and striking out eight.  Peters also had a big night at the plate finishing 3 for 4 with two runs scored and four RBI.
