Girls State Wrestling Tournament Area Recap – Kursave of ALC Wins State Title

The 2025 NSAA girls state wrestling championships concluded on Wednesday at the CHI Health Center in Omaha.  The top area highlight came at 170 lbs. in Class B where Rylee Kursave of Arcadia/Loup City claimed the state gold medal.  Kursave faced Catalina Jones of Louisville in the final.  It was a rematch of the C-1 district final which was won by Jones.  This time the match went in Kursave’s favor.  Leading 4-2 late in the match, Kursave avoided a takedown attempt by Jones and was able to put Jones in a pinning combination to win by fall right before time expired.  Kursave concludes the season with an overall record of 41-3.

Broken Bow’s Ida Bumgarner advanced to the Class B 190 lb. state championship match.  Bumgarner faced undefeated Addison Arvdal of Sutherland for the title.  Arvdal would win the match by fall to conclude her season with a perfect record of 42-0.  Bumgarner finished a tremendous freshman season and state tournament run with a state runner up finish and concluded the year with an overall mark of 29-8.

Abby Negley of Cozad claimed the state championship in Class B at 105 lbs.  Negley won by major decision over Alejandra Reyes of Johnson County Central.

Earlier in the day, Ansley/Litchfield’s Morgan Hawkins finished third in Class B at 235 lbs.  Hawkins won by fall over Addison Marschman of Fairbury to claim the third place medal.  Broken Bow’s Zoe Jones and Stayci Medina Lopez each claimed a sixth place medal.  Jones was sixth at 115 lbs. and Medina Lopez placed sixth at 170 lbs. in Class B.

With just three state qualifiers, Broken Bow placed in the top 15 of Class B team standings finishing 15th with 46 points and was just six points outside the top ten.
