Four games, four wins for Broken Bow Spirit and Post 126 on Thursday night

BROKEN BOW- It was a ‘Four games, four wins’ night for the home teams in Broken Bow on Thursday night. The Broken Bow Spirit softball team and Broken Bow Post 135 Junior and Senior baseball teams were all in action.

The Spirit took care of business winning both games of their double header with Sandhills Storm. In game one, the Spirit struck first in the bottom of the second inning by scoring on a Dalila Griffiths single. Broken Bow would hold onto the 2-0 lead they took in the second all the way to the fifth. The two teams each tallied two runs before the Sandhills Storm tried to come back in the top of the sixth, but they could only muster one run. In the 4-3 win, Lily Thornton allowed seven hits and three runs (two earned) over six innings of work, striking out four and walking four. At the plate, the Spirit were led by Dalila Griffiths, who went two for three while driving in two runs. Broken Bow was sharp at the plate, earning nine walks in the win.

Game two went much like game one for the Spirit, ending in a win. Sandhills Storm brought their bats to the plate early, scoring two in the top of the first. It was the consistent hitting of the Spirit that was the problem for the Storm however, as Broken Bow would score at least one run in the first four innings capped by a two run fourth inning. The result was a 5-3 victory for the Broken Bow Spirit. Caeden Arnold and Laney Holcomb led the offensive charge, each collecting a pair of hits. On the mound, Holcomb allowed five hits and three runs (two earned) over five innings of work while striking out two and walking four.

With the two victories Thursday night, Broken Bow Spirit improved to 12-13-2 on the year. They will rest up for a quick turnaround home double header against Cozad White on Friday night.

The Broken Bow Juniors were able to end their June schedule with an 8-6 victory over Ogallala at Paul Brown Field. After coming into the bottom of the fifth trailing 2-3, the Juniors were able to turn things around quickly, scoring five runs on four hits to take a 7-3 lead. The highlight of the inning was a single by Tayte Thorton that drove in two. Coy Wardyn earned the win for the Bow Juniors, allowing three hits and three runs (one earned) over five innings, while striking out five and walking four. As a team, Broken Bow tallied 11 hits. Max Denson went three for four at the plate.

The last action on a diamond in Broken Bow Thursday night featured the Broken Bow Seniors and Ogallala at Paul Brown Field. The Seniors would find the same final result, earning a win to wrap up their June schedule. After two and a half innings, Bow trailed 1-3. They would battle back to take a 5-3 lead in the bottom of the third on a Gavin Goodner line out that scored a run and an error that scored three runs. Broken Bow went on to outscore Ogallala two to one to take the win 7-4. Gavin Goodner earned the win for Broken Bow, giving up seven hits and four runs (three earned) over six and two-thirds innings, while striking out nine and walking two. Caden Holm made the most of his two appearances at the plate, going two for two. Gavin Goodner tallied two RBIs.

The Juniors and Seniors will be back in action next against Ord at home on July third.
