Are you ready for some football?!! The Nebraska high school football season gets into full swing tonight.
Anselmo-Merna will travel to Taylor tonight to open the season against Twin Loup. The Coyotes are looking to improve on a 3-5 record from last year. Speaking at the Anselmo-Merna fall sports kickoff, second year head coach Troy Gilligan said he has been pleased with the way the team has come together in preparation for the start of the season.
“Last year we had a lot of spots to fill as we had a big senior class that left. This year we have a lot of kids back so this year they’re going to have a lot more experience. Their chemistry is really clicking. A lot better this year than I think it probably did at the beginning of last year and I’m super excited for them.”
Twin Loup finished 7-3 overall last season and qualified for the D2 state playoffs. Coach Mike Kozeal told KCNI/KBBN sports that one of the keys for the Wolves this season will be the development of their offensive line.
“If we continue to develop our offensive line. I think that’s going to be important for us. We have some young kids up there but I thinkif we can block and we can stay good up front because we’re not real big. We have some good athletes up front and we’re going to have a couple of sophomores that play an awful lot if they do well and we develop them we can be a pretty good team.”
Tonight’s AM / Twin Loup game will be broadcast on KBBN 95.3 FM and on kbbn.com. Coverage begins with the Consolidated Friday Night Lights pregame show at 6 with kickoff scheduled for 7.
