The Twin Loup football team is coming off a successful 2022 season finishing the regular season at 6-2 and qualifying for the D2 state football playoffs ending with an overall record of 7-3. Twin Loup head coach Mike Kozeal took time to visit with KCNI/KBBN about the upcoming season. Kozeal said his team is still developing but is pleased with the attitude of the team and hopes to see them continue to build into a unified squad.
“It’s still early. We are still developing and we do have some young people that will see some significant time. You know hopefully that will come a little bit but the kids attitudes in practice have been really good. They’ve been working hard. We had to move some kids to different positions. You know some kids that have played in the backfield before will move to offensive line and defensive line…I think they are pretty unselfish. They seem to be getting along and everything seems to be going good. I hope that we are unified and we’re good teammates.”
We asked coach Kozeal to complete this sentence, Twin Loup will be a tough team to contend with if…
“If we continue to develop our offensive line. I think that’s going to be important for us. We have some young kids up there but I think if we can block and we can stay good up front because we’re not real big. We have some good athletes up front and we’re going to have a couple of sophomores that play an awful lot. If they do well and we develop them we can be a pretty good team.”
Twin Loup will play in the D2-7 district this year with Central Valley, Elm Creek, Burwell, Ansley/Litchfield and Overton. The Wolves will open the season August 25th when they host Anselmo-Merna. The game will be broadcast on KBBN 95.3 FM and kbbn.com. Other Twin Loup games scheduled to be featured on KBBN this season include a matchup against Sandhills/Thedford on September 8th and a matchup with Ansley/Litchfield on September 22nd.
