The Broken Bow American Legion baseball teams hosted Holdrege for a juniors and seniors doubleheader Wednesday night at Paul Brown Field.
The Bow juniors put together one of their most impressive performances of the season in shutting out Holdrege 14-0. Holdrege entered the night atop the Mid Nebraska League Juniors West Division standings. Broken Bow led 5-0 after three innings and then put the game away with nine runs in the fourth. Seven players had multi hit games. Xack Lowry was among the offensive leaders finishing 2 for 4 with a run scored and a game high 5 RBI. Brice Chaplin picked up the win throwing four innings of shutout baseball giving up just 3 hits and striking out 5. Owen Hartman pitched an inning of no hit relief striking out 2. The Bow juniors improve their overall record to 6-5.
The Bow seniors collected their 2nd league win of the season in dramatic fashion. After falling behind 5-0, Broken Bow got back in the game in the bottom of the 4th inning when they sent 12 men to the plate and scored seven runs to take the lead. Holdrege answered back with 3 runs in the fifth only to see Broken Bow come back with 2 runs in the bottom of the inning to reclaim the lead. Bow entered the 7th inning with a 9-8 lead but Holdrege would erase that scoring three runs in the 7th to take the lead. After the first two Broken Bow batters were retired in the bottom of the 7th, Caden Holm battled at the plate to draw a walk and keep the inning alive to set the table for a dramatic 2 out rally. After the walk to Holm, Max Denson followed with a single to put the tying runs on base. Brice Chaplin then sent a towering fly ball to the fence in left center field for a bases clearing triple which tied the game at 11-11. Eli Coble then stepped to the plate and drove a single to right center field to drive in Chaplin for the game winning run. Chaplin finished with a team high 4 RBI. Eli Coble was 2 for 4 with a run scored and 2 RBI while Max Denson finished 3 for 4 with 1 RBI and 2 runs scored.
The Bow juniors and seniors will host Gering Thursday at Paul Brown Field.
