District Wrestling – Area Recap

Wrestlers from across the KCNI/KBBN coverage area competed over the weekend for the opportunity to advance to the NSAA state wrestling championships next week in Omaha.

Anselmo-Merna, South Loup, Sandhills/Thedford, Twin Loup, and Burwell all competed at the D-1 district in Shelton.  Burwell was the district team runner-up finishing just seven points behind team champion Aquinas Catholic of David City.  The Longhorns qualified seven for state.  Brody Jensen (champion at 113), Ora Chaffin (4th at 120), Drew Dawe (3rd at 132), Austin Mayfield (runner up at 138), Cort Buss (4th at 144), Trentin Brown (3rd at 157), and Cale Buss (runner up at 190).  Anselmo-Merna qualified two for state.  Jarrett Wells (champion at 150) and Brett Olson (4th at 113).  South Loup qualified two wrestlers for state.  Dawson Mason (champion at 132) and CJ Quandt (4th at 157).  Cazen Smith of Twin Loup qualified for state finishing third at 150 lbs. and Caden Zutavern of Sandhills/Thedford qualified for state as the runner up at 285 lbs.  For full D-1 district results click here

Ansley/Litchfield and SEM were among the teams that competed at the D-2 district hosted by Wilcox-Hildreth.  SEM qualified two wrestlers for state.  Maddox Jones (champion at 175 lbs.) and Clayton Scoville (4th at 120).  Ansley/Litchfield qualified two for state.  Isaac O’Brien (4th at 175) and Andy Cash (3rd at 285).  For full D-2 district results click here

Arcadia/Loup City was among the teams that competed at the D-3 district tournament held at Central Valley high school in Greeley.  Wyatt Stieb was runner up at 190 lbs. and will represent the Rebels at the state tournament next week.  For full D-3 district results click here

Mullen and Sandhills Valley were among the teams that competed at the D-4 district tournament in Sutherland.  Mullen qualified three wrestlers for state.  Jason Kraus (runner up at 157), Cooper Walker (4th at 165), and Tate Kvanvig (runner up at 215).  Sandhills Valley qualified two for state.  Tucker Myers (4th at 144) and Kaden Allen (runner up at 285).  For full D-4 district results click here

The NSAA boys state wrestling tournament is scheduled for February 20th, 21st, and 22nd at the CHI Health Center in Omaha.
