Wrestlers from across the state will attempt to qualify for the state championships this weekend as they compete in district competition. Class D district tournaments will be a two day tournament beginning today (2/13) and finishing tomorrow (2/14). Anselmo-Merna, Ansley/Litchfield, Arcadia/Loup City, SEM, and Twin Loup will all compete at the D-2 district at Elm Creek. Mullen, Sandhills Valley, Sandhills/Thedford, and South Loup will be among the teams competing today and tomorrow at the D-4 district tournament at Southwest High School in Bartley. Burwell, fresh off their Class D state duals championship, will be among the teams competing at the D-1 district at Oakland-Craig.
Broken Bow will host the C-4 district wrestling tournament on Saturday at the Broken Bow high school gym. Joining Broken Bow for the one day tournament will be Bridgeport, Chadron, Chase County, Cozad, Gibbon, Gothenburg, Hershey, Kearney Catholic, Mitchell, North Bend Central, Ogallala, Ord, Pierce, West Holt, Yutan. Matches are scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Live coverage of all Broken Bow matches from the district tournament will be broadcast on KBBN 95.3 FM and kbbn.com. Central Nebraska’s Sports Source will also provide updates from other districts which include area teams.
The top four in each weight class from each district will qualify for the state tournament. The NSAA state wrestling championships will take place February 19th, 20th, and 21st at the CHI Health Center in Omaha.
