Dawson Doggett of Callaway Leads Steer Wrestling at NHSFR After First Go

The opening go round of the National High School Finals Rodeo concluded with the Wednesday morning performance at Rock Springs Wyoming.  One of the top performers for Team Nebraska in the first go was area cowboy Dawson Doggett of Callaway who leads the steer wrestling at the national finals.  Doggett posted a time of 4.44 seconds which is the fastest through the first go round.  Doggett is scheduled to make his second run during Friday night’s performance.  Carson Cooksley of Valentine posted a time of 5.83 in the steer wrestling and currently sits 12th overall after the first go.

Other highlights for Team Nebraska after the first go round, Sutton Schrunk of Valentine is the leader in the bull riding.  Schrunk posted a top score of 86 in the first go.  Grady Gorwill of Hyannis sits 6th in the bull riding after an opening score of 79.  Reagan McIntyre of Grand Island is 5th in the breakaway roping and 6th in the goat tying after the first go and is currently 2nd in the girls all around standings.

Others who are in the top ten after the opening go round include: Tyley Sears of Valentine 4th in the barrels, Alex Hathaway of Pender is tied for 5th in the boys cutting, and Brooke Forre of Newman Grove and Ava Smith of Pender are tied for 7th in the girls cutting.

It has been a great start to the national finals for Team Nebraska.  Nebraska is 2nd in the girls team standings behind Team Texas after the first go.  Nebraska is currently ninth in the boys team standings and Nebraska is currently fifth in the combined standings.
