Champions in six classes were crowned Saturday at the NSAA boys state basketball championships in Lincoln.
In Class D2, Archangels Catholic claimed the title with a dominant 50-30 win over Elgin Public Pope John in the championship game. Archangels held EPPJ to just six points in the first half and scored 27 points off turnovers in the game. The Defenders were led by Brenden Johannes who finished with 15 points in the game and Gavin Geilenkirchen finished with 12 points.
In Class C1, Ashland-Greenwood edged Douglas County West 42-39 to win the championship. Ashland-Greenwood was crowned the C1 state champion for the second year in a row and for the fourth time in the last five years. A-G was led by Derek Tonjes who finished with a team high 14 points.
In Class A, Lincoln Southwest claimed its first state title holding off Papillion La-Vista South 57-53. Uzziah Sanders of Southwest led all scorers with a game high 20 points.
In Class C2, Bergan Catholic repeated as champion with a 59-50 win over Norfolk Catholic. Bergan outscored NC 39-19 in the middle two quarters. The star of the game was Bergan Catholic’s Gavin Baker who finished with a game high 30 points.
In Class B, after finishing as the state runner-up in 2025, Scottsbluff claimed its first boys basketball state title since 2012 with a 68-56 win over Elkhorn North. Rylee Meininger scored 23 and Nate Kelley scored 22 to lead Scottsbluff.
In Class D1, Howells-Dodge won its second boys basketball state championship as a co-op defeating McCool Junction 57-39. Howells-Dodge had three players finish in double figures led by Chase Luther who finished with a team high 14.
