The Broken Bow athletic department hosted a letter of intent signing for senior Camryn Johnson who has signed to join the girls golf program at Wayne State College in Wayne, NE. Johnson took time to visit with KCNI/KBBN sports about her decision to join the Wayne State golf program. Johnson said when Wayne State coach Nick Swaney reached out to her between her sophomore and junior year in high school she did not see herself going to Wayne. However, when she decided to take an official visit she knew it was the place for her.
Actually the coach (Nick Swaney) he reached out to me like the summer between my sophomore and junior year. I was kind of like I’ll never go to Wayne. Then he reached out to me again this past couple of months and I was like I’ll go on a visit not thinking I was going to go there but I went on a visit there and loved it as soon as I got there and just kind of knew once I got on campus
Johnson has been blessed with a great support system and thanked her family for all they have done for her.
Just my family. I always tell people that I travel with a big crowd and you know that I have all my family at every single one of my events. They just make it special for me every time I’m at a golf meet. I am very thankful for them
Johnson had an amazing four years as a member of the Broken Bow girls golf team. Johnson was a four year state qualifier in girls golf and helped Broken Bow win four consecutive Class C girls state golf team titles between 2020-2023. Johnson was a three time individual state medalist placing 9th in 2021, was the runner up in 2022, and won the individual gold medal this past season as a senior. Johnson said all of the accomplishments started to kind of sink in when Broken Bow hosted its year end awards night for girls golf.
At our end of the year award thing. It hadn’t even set in like everything but when we talk about it it kind of sets in and you’re like Wow! we made history so it’s super exciting that I was a part of that in all four years of my high school (career).
