It was a busy weekend for Nebraska high school rodeo contestants as they wrapped up the spring regular season with three rodeo performances out west. Recapping some of the area highlights from the weekend.
On Friday, contestants were in Morrill for the Panhandle Rodeo. Colton Leach of Dunning had a big day finishing runner up in the cowboy all round standings just ten points out of first place. Leach won the tie down roping Friday with a winning time of 11.46 seconds and teamed with Kirsten Koening of Dunning to place second in the team roping. Other top three area finishes on Friday included Zachary Miller of Callaway runner up in the tie down roping. Cayson Johnston of Stapleton teamed with Reese Swanson of Arthur to finish 3rd in the team roping and Anna Clark of Thedford was runner up in the barrel racing on Friday.
On Saturday, contestants competed at Harrison, NE. Cayson Johnston of Stapleton was the boy’s all around champion winning two events and was runner up in a third. Johnston won the tie down roping in a winning time of 12.49 seconds, teamed with Reese Swanson of Arthur to win the team roping in a time of 13.69 and was runner up in the steer wrestling on Saturday.
On Sunday, contestants concluded the weekend of competition at Crawford. Top three area finishes included Colton Leach of Dunning runner up in the tie down roping. Raylynn Hunt and Karley Haake both of Thedford placed third in the team roping. Tate Johnston of Thedford was runner up in the steer wrestling, Haylea Miller of Merna was third in the girls cutting and Cooper Walker of Seneca placed third in the bareback competition.
Rodeo contestants will now prepare for the Nebraka High School Finals Rodeo which takes place in Burwell with performances scheduled for June 13, 14, and 15.
