Burwell Qualifies as a Team for Boys State Golf and Three Area Golfers Qualify as Individuals Out of D-3 District

Burwell hosted the D-3 boys golf district tournament on Tuesday at Calamus golf course. The top three teams and top ten individuals plus ties automatically qualified for the Class D boys state golf championships next week. The host team Burwell qualified for state as a team finishing third in the team standings with a score of 371. The district team champion was Neligh-Oakdale with a 348 and Elgin Public/Pope John was runner up with a 365. The Longhorns were led by Wryder Svoboda who tied for 9th and 10th with a round of 85. Others on the state qualifying Burwell team included Augustus Elliott (12), 89, Titus Gideon (12), 98, Landon Critel (9), 99, and Devin Konicek (12), 119.

Anselmo-Merna finished just 4 shots out of the top three in the team standings placing 5th overall with a team score of 375. The Coyotes did qualify two individuals for the state tournament as both Colin Cooksley and Aaron Bartak placed in the top ten. Cooksley finished in a tie for 2nd and 3rd with a 77 which was just two shots behind the individual champion Gage Burns of Creighton who shot a low round of 75. Bartak tied for the 6th best round of the day with an 83. Also shooting an 83 and qualifying for state was Brady Haake of Sandhills/Thedford.

The Class D boys state golf championships will take place May 23rd and 24th at North Platte’s Lake Maloney Golf Club.

Arcadia/Loup City competed Tuesday at the C-4 district meet at Indianhead Golf Course at Grand Island. The top three teams qualifying for state out of the district were GICC, Heartland, and St. Paul. The individual champion was Samuel Wells of St. Paul who shot a low round of 73. It took a round of 80 to place in the top ten and qualify for state individually. ALC finished with a team score of 474.
