Broken Bow Splits Legion Baseball Doubleheader with Gothenburg

Broken Bow traveled to Gothenburg Tuesday night for an American Legion juniors and seniors doubleheader.

The Bow juniors fell to Gothenburg 10-9.  Gothenburg scored seven runs in their first at bat and led 9-1 after two innings.  Broken Bow fought back though outscoring Gothenburg 8-1 in the next four innings and trailed 10-9 going to the bottom of the sixth.  But as the game moved through the sixth inning the game was stopped due to time limit as Gothenburg was able to hold on for the win.  Dominic Nowak, Xach Lowry, and Caenyn Priest all had multi hit games for the Bow juniors.  Nowak was 2 for 4 with 4 runs scored, Lowry was 2 for 4 with 1 run scored and 1 RBI, and Priest was 2 for 4 with 1 RBI.  The Bow juniors are now 7-8 on the season.

The Bow seniors overcame an early deficit to earn their 10th win of the season.  Gothenburg sent 10 men to the plate in the bottom of the first inning scoring six runs and led Broken Bow 6-1 after the first inning.  However, Gothenburg would not score again as Coy Wardyn came on in relief to get Broken Bow out of the opening inning and finished off the game throwing 6 2/3 innings of shutout baseball surrendering just four hits and striking out 10.  Broken Bow took the lead with a 6 run fourth inning highlighted by a 3 run homer by Brice Chaplin.  Bow would then add two insurance runs in the top of the sixth.  Gothenburg loaded the bases with two out in the bottom of the 7th but Braden Ehlers grounded out to Broken Bow pitcher Coy Wardyn to end the game.  Max Denson was 3 for 3 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI.  Coy Wardyn, Kayden Record, Brycen Woodward, and Owen Hartman also had multi hit games as each finished 2 for 4 on the night.  The Bow seniors are now 10-3 overall.

Broken Bow will host Lexington Thursday for a seniors only contest at Paul Brown Field.  The game will be broadcast on KBBN 95.3 FM and kbbn.com with game time scheduled for 7 p.m.
