The Broken Bow Spirit 18U softball team fell to the Cozad Classics in both games of a doubleheader on Thursday night at Tyke Arnold Field. In game one, Cozad took advantage of some Broken Bow defensive miscues to claim an 8-1 win. Cozad’s eight runs came on four hits and all runs were unearned. Lily Thornton was strong in the circle in spite of the final score. Thornton went the distance giving up just four hits, no walks, and striking out four. Hallie Meyer was 2 for 2 at the plate with an RBI.
In game two, Cozad used a five run second inning to key a 7-4 win. The Spirit were down 7-0 after three innings but fought back in the top of the fourth inning scoring four runs to get back in the game. However, the time limit ran out in the bottom of the fourth and Cozad was able to hang for the win. Anslee Campbell was 1 for 2 with a run scored and an RBI and Bailey Hawkins drove in two runs to help lead the Spirit offense.
The Spirit are now 10-14 on the season.
