The Broken Bow Spirit 18U softball team traveled to Cozad on Tuesday for a doubleheader with the Cozad Classics 18U.
Broken Bow took game one in dramatic fashion. Cozad led 5-2 going to the bottom of the sixth but Broken Bow scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game 5-5. After Cozad scored a run in the top of the 7th, the Spirit trailed 6-5 in the bottom of the 7th inning when Brielle Hamel-Evans hit a game winning two-run homer to deliver the walk off win. Hamel-Evans finished 2 for 3 with two runs scored and two RBI. Skylar Smith and Anslee Campbell were each 3 for 3 in the game and Alexis Pflaster had a multi-hit game going 2 for 3 with a run scored and one RBI as Broken Bow outhit Cozad in game one 13-10.
In game two, Cozad scored three runs in their first at bat on their way to a 5-1 win. Cozad pitching held the Spirit to just one run on one hit. Emma Thornton had the lone hit for Broken Bow and Carli Griffiths scored Broken Bow’s lone run of the game in the first inning.
