The Broken Bow Spirit 18U softball team played two games on Thursday.
The Spirit edged Central City Stampede 18U 3-2. The game was tied 2-2 when Ruby Russell doubled to score the winning run for the walk off victory. Cassidy Schweitzer was 1 for 3 with 2 runs scored and Ida Bumgarner was 1 for 2 with 1 RBI. Lily Thornton picked up the win in the circle pitching a complete game giving up two runs on five hits and striking out seven.
The Spirit would also face David City Crossfire on Thursday. Broken Bow trailed early 6-2 after two innings but battled back to within two runs (7-5) entering the fifth. David City would score 3 insurance runs in the fifth and hang on for a 10-5 win. Anslee Campbell had two of Broken Bow’s 3 hits in the game finishing 2 for 2 with 1 run scored and 2 RBI.
The Spirit will now prepare for the “Spirit of the Sandhills” softball tournament this weekend in Broken Bow.
