The Broken Bow American Legion seniors baseball team claimed the Mid Nebraska League championship Monday evening winning over DCB (Dannebrog, Cairo, Boelus) in extra innings 8-7. After taking an early 1-0 lead in the first inning, Broken Bow fell behind in the third inning when DCB scored 3 runs to take the lead. The Bow seniors quickly responded as they batted through the order in the bottom of the third scoring five runs to retake the lead 6-3. The score remained that way until the bottom of the sixth when Broken Bow added an insurance run to extend their lead to 7-3 going to the 7th inning. With Broken Bow one out away from securing the championship in the seventh inning, things started to unravel. Three consecutive walks followed by a bases clearing throwing error allowed DCB to score four runs in the top of the 7th inning to tie the game at 7-7 and force extra innings. After DCB failed to score in the top of the 8th, the stage was set for Broken Bow. The bottom of the 8th started with Brycen Woodward being hit by a pitch to put the winning run on base. After Carter Hall came into pinch run, Owen Hartman struck out swinging for the first out of the inning. The next batter was Coy Wardyn who drew a one out walk. Eli Coble then flew out to left for the second out of the inning. With runners at first and second and two out, DCB chose to walk Max Denson and load the bases. That set up the winning moment for Brice Chaplin who ripped a base hit into left center field to drive in Carter Hall for the walk off victory. Chaplin finished the night 2 for 4 with 1 run batted in. Dominic Nowak also had a multi hit game finishing 2 for 3 with a run scored. Max Denson started the game on the mound for Broken Bow throwing five complete innings surrendering 3 runs on 3 hits and striking out 10.
The Bow seniors improve to 14-5 on the year.
