The Broken Bow American Legion seniors baseball team opened play at the Class B Area 5 tournament in O’Neill on Friday. Broken Bow entered the seven team tournament as the
#5 seed and faced the #4 seed O’Neill. The game went back and forth. Broken Bow scored a run in their first at bat to take an early 1-0 lead. O’Neill scored runs in the second
and third inning to take a 2-1 lead, Broken Bow responded with a two run fourth inning to retake the lead. O’Neill tied the game with a run in the bottom of the fourth then
went back in front with a two run fifth inning. In the top of the sixth, Drew Ellis went deep for a solo homerun, his fourth of the season, to make the score 5-4. In the bottom of the
sixth, O’Neill added three insurance runs and held on for an 8-4 win. Drew Ellis finished with 2 of Broken Bow’s four hits on the night going 2 for 3 with a double and a homerun.
Broken Bow drops to the elimination bracket and will next play on Sunday. Broken Bow will face the loser of Saturday’s game between Wayne and West Point at 1 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. The game will be broadcast on KBBN 95.3 FM and kbbn.com.
