The Broken Bow senior legion baseball team and the Bow Spirit 18U softball team wrapped up tournament play on Sunday.
Bow seniors fall to Syracuse
The Bow seniors concluded play at the Plattsmouth Wood Bat tournament Sunday facing the Syracuse seniors. Syracuse took control early scoring seven runs in the first inning and added three more in the third. Bow got on the board with a run in the fourth inning and added three more in the fifth, but the early deficit was too much to overcome as Syracuse would collect a 12-4 win. Broken Bow outhit Syracuse 7 to 6 but gave up 11 walks and committed three errors. Drew Ellis delivered one of the offensive highlights for Broken Bow delivering a 2-run homerun in the fifth inning. Ellis finished 2 for 2 at the plate with two runs scored and two RBI. Dominic Nowak also had a multi-hit game finishing 2 for 3 with a double and a run scored.
Bow Spirit goes 2-1 on Sunday
The Broken Bow Spirit 18U softball team finished play at the Kearney Klassic on Sunday going 2-1 on the day. The Spirit opened with a 13-1 win over Lexington 18U. Broken Bow put the game away with a ten run third inning highlighted by an inside the park homerun by Skylar Smith. Smith finished 3 for 3 at the plate with two runs scored and five RBI. Paislee Oeltjen picked up the win in the circle giving up just one run on two hits with two strikeouts.
The Spirit then faced DCB 16U. The game went back and forth and was tied 5-5 after four innings but Broken Bow scored two runs in the fifth, highlighted by a run scoring double off the bat of Ida Bumgarner, to break the tie and secure a 7-5 win. Skylar Smith had another multi-hit game going 3 for 3 with two runs scored and one RBI.
In Bow’s final game of the tournament, the Spirit fell to DMILACO Select 16U 11-3. DMILACO jumped out to an 8-0 lead thanks in part to a five run third inning. Bow’s three runs came in the fourth inning highlighted by a solo homerun off the bat of Ida Bumgarner.
The Spirit are now 5-5 on the season.
