Broken Bow Senior Skylar Benjamin Signs to Play Golf for Iowa Western CC

Central Nebraka’s Sports Source was invited to attend the letter of intent signing for Broken Bow senior Skylar Benjamin who has signed to join the girls golf program at Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs, IA.  Benjamin said she did not pick up a club and get into the game of golf until she came to Broken Bow as a sophomore in high school.  Benjamin worked her way into a varsity team member for the Broken Bow girls golf team and was an important part of their 2022 and 2023 Class C state championship teams.  Skylar said the success of the Broken Bow girls golf program played into her decision to pick up the game of golf.

“I saw they had a lot of success and I had played volleyball my freshman year and I wasn’t the best at it so I decided to try it (golf) because everyone in my family golfs.  I’ve just put in a lot of hours, countless lessons, always at the golf course.  It took a lot of hard work but I’m proud of where I’m at.”

Benjamin said that Iowa Western reached out and the success of their program made it a great opportunity for her.

“They reached out to me in about February and I was kind of not decided.  I thought I was not going to play golf but they reached out and I thought it was a great opportunity.  They’re really successful in their golf program.  They always make it to nationals, always compete and I think it’s a good opportunity for me to get better.”

Academically, Benjamin says she plans to pursue a career in speech pathology.
