Broken Bow Senior Legion go 2-1 at Early Bird Classic

Broken Bow hosted the Early Bird Classic senior legion baseball tournament at Paul Brown Field during the Memorial Day Weekend. Joining Broken Bow for the tournament were St. Paul, Alliance, and Imperial.

Bow went up against St. Paul on Friday. Broken Bow jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first inning and the score stayed that way until the top of the sixth when St. Paul scored 3 runs to tie the game. Broken Bow responded with a run in the bottom of the sixth and held on for a 4-3 win. Kayden Record had two of Broken Bow’s five hits finishing 2 for 2 with a run batted in. Brice Chaplin started the game on the mound pitching five scoreless innings and striking out four. Coy Wardyn picked up the win in relief and Max Denson collected the save.

On Saturday, Broken Bow went up against Alliance. It was a back and forth affair that went to the final at bat. Broken Bow took an early 5-0 lead after an inning and a half but Alliance scored four runs in the bottom of the second and two more in the fourth to take a 6-5 lead. After each team scored a run in the fifth, Bow tied the game with a run in the top of the 7th but Alliance scored in the bottom of the 7th for an 8-7 walk off win. Broken Bow outhit Alliance 11-4 but committed four errors and surrendered six walks. Coy Wardyn had a big day at the plate finishing 4 for 4 with 4 runs scored and 1 RBI.

Broken Bow faced Imperial on Monday. Max Denson and Kayden Record pitched a combined one hit shutout as Broken Bow picked up its fourth win of the year winning 7-0. Denson went five scoreless innings giving up just one hit and striking out 13. Record pitched two innings of perfect relief striking out two in the process. Denson was the leader at the plate as well finishing 3 for 4 with two runs scored and two runs batted in. Kayden Recored and Dominic Nowak also had multi hit games for the Bow seniors. Nowak was 2 for 5 with 2 RBI and a run scored. Record finished 2 for 4 with one run batted in.

The Bow seniors are now 4-1 on the season and are next scheduled to play at Holdrege on Friday (3/31).
