The Broken Bow American Legion juniors baseball team faced Gothenburg Friday in the opening round of the Class B Area 6 tournament in Minden. Gothenburg, the tournament’s top seed, jumped out quickly with an eight run first inning to take control. The early deficit would be too much for Broken Bow to make up as Gothenburg claimed a 9-1 win. Broken Bow’s lone run of the game came in the fourth inning when Queston Young scored on an RBI single off the bat of Nathan Lowry. Gothenburg advances in the double elimination tournament to face the loser of tonight’s game between Minden and Valparaiso on Saturday. Broken Bow will play in an elimination game tomorrow against the loser of today’s game between Holdrege and Ogallala.
