Broken Bow Holds Off Holdrege at B6 Area Tournament / Advances to Play Minden for the Championship on Tuesday

The Broken Bow American Legion seniors baseball team remained unbeaten at the B6 area tournament holding off Holdrege Monday night 4-1.  Dominic Nowak pitched a complete game for the win.  Nowak surrendered one run on two hits while walking three and striking out six.  Broken Bow took the lead early in the first inning as Coy Wardyn singled to lead off the inning then came around to score the first run of the game.  Holdrege was able to tie the game with a run in the top of the third but Broken Bow answered quickly with a 3 run bottom of the third to retake the lead.  Holdrege made it interesting in the top of the 7th as the first two batters reached on singles but Nowak was able to pitch around it and secure the victory.   Coy Wardyn was 2 for 2 in the leadoff spot with 2 runs scored to help lead the Broken Bow offense.

With the win, Broken Bow advances to face Minden on Tuesday for the tournament championship.  Game one of a possible two is scheduled for 5 p.m. and will be broadcast on KBBN 95.3 FM and kbbn.com.  Broken Bow needs one win to claim the title while Minden would have to defeat Broken Bow twice on Tuesday to win the championship.

Regardless of Tuesday’s outcome, Broken Bow has qualified for state and will play in the National Division tournament at Minden beginning Saturday, August 2nd.
