Broken Bow has Strong Showing at B-5 District Track and Field Championships

The B-5 district track and field championships took place Tuesday at Mark Russell Field in Broken Bow.  Broken Bow placed third in the boys team standings and ninth in the girls team standings. Northwest won both the girls and boys team titles.

Broken Bow will be well represented at the state track and field championships in Omaha next week.  It was a big day for Qwentin Coble who qualified in three individual events. Coble was the district champion in the boys 200 with a winning time of 22.24. Coble qualified in the long jump placing 2nd with an effort of 21’6″. Coble also qualified in the 100 meter dash finishing third in a time of 11.28 seconds. Kya Scott qualified in the girls high jump.  Scott finished tied for 5th but cleared the automatic qualifying height of 5’1″. Scott also qualified for state in the girls shot put finishing third with an effort of 36’5.5″. Max Denson and Sawyer Bumgarner both qualified for state in the boys shot put. Denson was 2nd with an effort of 50’8.5″ and Sawyer Bumgarner was third with an effort of 49’5.75″. Noah Osmond qualified for state in the boys 3200. Osmond finished third with a time of 10:34.66. Zane Eggleston qualified for state in the boys 110 meter high hurdles finishing third in a time of 16.06. Broken Bow qualified in the girls 4×400 meter relay. The team of Kailyn Scott, Anna Lindstrom, Maren Chapin, and Brianna Quinn finished 2nd with a qualifying time of 4:07.33.

A possibility more qualifiers will be added based on their performances at the district meet.

Macy Doggett – 5th – girls shot put (35’1.25″)
Gracie Hackel – 6th – girls 3200 (13:23.00)
Maren Chapin – 5th – girls 400 (1:02.05)
Brianna Quinn – 4th – girls 800 (2:27.82)

The state championships for Class B will take place May 18th and 19th at Burke Stadium in Omaha.
