The Broken Bow girls basketball team claimed 5th place in the Southwest Conference girls basketball tournament Thursday night in Gothenburg with a 52-29 win over Holdrege. The Lady Indians jumped out early outscoring the Lady Dusters 20-6 in the first quarter on their way to a 52-29 win. Broken Bow found their shooting touch knocking down ten 3’s as a team. Broken Bow was led by Janae Marten who had a game high 14 points and Jayden Gaffney came off the bench to score 11 as Broken Bow improves to 13-5 on the season.
The Broken Bow boys battled Minden in the SWC consolation bracket Thursday night. Broken Bow led 28-21 at halftime but Minden fought back and outscored the Indians 30-18 in the second half to secure a 51-46 win. Broken Bow was led by Dominic Nowak who scored a team high 13 points.
Broken Bow will travel to Lexington Tuesday (2/4) for a girls and boys basketball doubleheader. The games will be broadcast on KBBN 95.3 FM and kbbn.com.
The Southwest Conference tournament semifinals will be played Friday at Kearney High School. The day begins with the boys semis starting with top seed Ogallala vs Gothenburg at 3:30 followed by Holdrege vs Cozad at 5. The girls semis begin with top seed Minden vs Ogallala at 6:30 followed by Gothenburg vs McCook. The 3rd place consolation and championship games will take place Saturday in Kearney.
