The Broken Bow girls golf team begins its season today as they travel to Kearney for a dual with Kearney High at the par three Elks Country Golf Course in Kearney.
Kelly Cooksley enters his ninth season as head coach of the Broken Bow girls golf program. Speaking during the Broken Bow Athletic Booster Club fall sports kickoff event, Cooksley talked about working with players who are at different stages in their golf game.
“Just got a an assistant this week so that that will help as far as the logistics of our course. It isn’t extremely great for logistics for like going to the range and then when you have sixteen kids you can’t have them all on the practice green and stuff. So having that will definitely help. Then there’s just like you said, there’s a big difference between like say our five seniors and our freshmen just on experience, but like I said earlier, it’s been nice to kind of watch those girls grow in just one week and it’s been enjoyable.”
Broken Bow will play in its first invitational tournament on Thursday when they travel back to Kearney to compete in the Kearney Catholic Invite to be played at Meadowlark Hills Golf Course. Other notable dates for the team this year include the Bow Invite on September 8th and the Southwest Conference tournament on September 29th at the Cozad Country Club.
Broken Bow has been assigned to the Class C-4 district and will play in their district golf tournament on Monday October 5th at Lakeside Country Club. The Class C state tournament takes place this year at Lake Maloney Golf Club in North Platte October 12th and 13th.
