Broken Bow Falls to Minden at the B6 American Legion Juniors Tournament

The Broken Bow American Legion Juniors baseball team fell to Minden Saturday night in the second round of the B6 Area Tournament at Paul Brown Field.  Minden scored 9 runs on 8 hits but only 2 of the 9 runs were earned.  Broken Bow was charged with six errors and Minden committed none on their way to a 9-5 win.  Broken Bow started the game with back to back singles by Coy Wardyn and Max Denson and loaded the bases with nobody out in the top of the first.  However, Broken Bow would score only one run and left the bases loaded to end the inning.  Minden took control of the game in the 2nd inning when they sent 11 men to the plate and scored seven runs.  Minden would then add a run in the fourth inning and another in the sixth.  The Bow juniors tried to put together a rally scoring three runs in the top of the fifth and Max Denson and Brice Chaplin hit back to back doubles in the top of the seventh to produce a run but Minden would close the door and hang on for the win.  Coy Wardyn helped lead the offense finishing 3 for 4 with 2 runs scored and 1 RBI.  Max Denson also had a multi-hit game finishing 2 for 4 with one run scored.

It was Broken Bow’s first loss of the double elimination tournament.  Broken Bow will face McCook in an elimination game Sunday.  Organizers have informed Central Nebraska’s Sports Source that the Broken Bow / McCook game will be played at 6 p.m.  Minden will play Holdrege in a winner’s bracket game at 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon.

In other action from Saturday, top seed Holdrege remained undefeated in the tournament by eliminating Gothenburg 13-7 and McCook stayed alive in the tournament by eliminating Ogallala 11-5.
