Broken Bow Falls to Gothenburg in Regular Season Finale

Broken Bow and Gothenburg battled for the C1-6 district championship Friday night at Mark Russell Field.  Broken Bow took the lead in the opening minute of the game.  On Bow’s first play from scrimmage, Eli Coble ran for 68 yards down to the Gothenburg five yard line.  On the next play, Coble scored from 5 yards out to give Broken Bow a 7-0 lead.  The Indians then put together a 95 yard touchdown drive on their second possession.  Eli Coble hit Brice Chaplin for a 27 yard touchdown pass to go up 14-0.  Gothenburg would answer when Jackson Daum scored from 3 yards out to make the score 14-8 with 9:04 remaining in the second quarter.  Broken Bow had a chance to score right before the half but was held on fourth down and goal from the one yard line in the final 20 seconds of the second quarter.  The teams exchanged touchdowns on their opening drives of the second half.  Broken Bow led 21-14 with 4:56 left in the 3rd quarter but Gothenburg would drive and score with 33 seconds left in the third quarter.  The Swedes converted on the two point conversion and led 22-21 enter the fourth quarter.  After holding Broken Bow inches short on fourth down in Gothenburg territory, the Swedes took over at their own 30 yard line and proceeded to march down the field taking time off the clock.  Broken Bow had a chance to stop Gothenburg on a fourth down late in the game but a pass interference call against the Indians allowed the drive to continue as the Swedes were able to basically run out the clock and hang on for the win.  Both teams end the season at 6-3 and will now wait to see where they land in the Class C1 state playoff bracket which comes out on Saturday.

SEM completed their 2nd consecutive undefeated regular season by defeating Shelton Friday night 49-7.
