
The Broken Bow girls basketball team fell to Grand Island Central Catholic on Thursday in the opening round of the Class C1 girls state basketball tournament in Lincoln. Broken Bow was held to just 33 points which was their lowest scoring output in a game this season. GICC jumped out early but Broken Bow fought back and tied the game 13-13 early in the second quarter but the Crusaders went on a run to close out the second quarter and built a ten point lead at halftime. The Lady Indians tried to make a run in the second half but GICC seemed to always have an answer on their way to a 49-33 victory. MaKinley Tobey was the top scorer for Broken Bow scoring twelve of her team high fifteen points in the second half. Halle McCaslin also finished in double figures for Broken Bow with eleven. Broken Bow concludes the season with an overall record of 19-5. GICC improves to 24-2 and advances to C1 state tournament semifinals where they will face Sidney on Friday. Sidney, coached by Broken Bow alum Tyler Shaw, advanced to the semifinals with a thrilling 40-38 win over Adams Central as Karsyn Leeling hit a three pointer with 5.3 seconds left for the game winner. Top seed Lincoln Christian will meet undefeated Bridgeport in the other C1 semifinal. Lincoln Christian defeated four time defending C1 state champion North Bend Central 51-39 and Bridgeport held off Minden 65-57 to advance.
