The Broken Bow American Legion Seniors baseball team (Post 126) competed against some top notch competition at the Wood Bat Tournament in Plattsmouth over the weekend.
Broken Bow began play on Friday against Outlaws Post 189. The Outlaws jumped out to an 8-3 lead after three innings on their way to a 12-4 win. Broken Bow had fours across the board on Friday finishing with 4 runs on 4 hits with 4 errors. Collecting hits for Broken Bow were Gavin Goodner, Caden Holm, Max Denson, and Owen Hartman.
The Bow seniors faced the Millard Sox Seniors Black team on Saturday. Broken Bow led 3-0 after four innings but Millard would score four runs in the fifth to take the lead. Bow would come back and tie the game at four with a run in the sixth inning but Millard scored 3 runs in the top of the 7th and held on for a 7-5 victory. One of the offensive highlights for Broken Bow came in their first at bat when Brice Chaplin hit a 2 run homer.
On Sunday, Broken Bow concluded the tournament against the Chick-Fil-A seniors. Chick-Fil-A jumped out to a 4-0 lead after four innings on their way to a 7-1 win. Only one of the Chick-Fil-A runs showed as earned. Gavin Goodner had two of Broken Bow’s four hits and drove in Bow’s lone run of the game.
Broken Bow is scheduled to take the field again on Wednesday (5/31) when they travel to Holdrege for a juniors and seniors doubleheader.
