Broken Bow Competes at Cozad Track Invite – Safranek Breaks McCloughan’s School Record in 100 meter dash

The Broken Bow girls and boys track teams competed at the Cozad track and field invite on Tuesday. Cozad won the boys team championship and Gothenburg was the girls team champion. Broken Bow finished fourth in the boys team standings and was third in the girls standings.

Among the Broken Bow highlights, Cruze Safranek won the boys 100 meter dash and did so in a new school record time of 10.61 seconds.  It breaks a mark that has stood for 63 years breaking Kent McCloughan’s time of 10.7 seconds set back in 1961. Brock Oeltjen was champion in the boys 800 in a winning time of 2:05.77. Jackson Hansen won the boys 1600 in a time of 5:03.2. Max Denson won the boys shot put with a winning effort of 55’7.25″. Coy Wardyn won the boys pole vault clearing 14’4″. Klarissa Dowdy won the girls 300 meter hurdles in a winning time of 49.93 seconds. Janae Marten won the girls shot put in a winning effort of 36’7.75″. Genesis Guevara won the girls 3200 in a winning time of 14:20.99 and Jaycee Staples was runner up (14:50.48) William Moninger was runner up in the boys 400 in a time of 53.47 seconds. Broken Bow was runner up in the boys 4×100 meter relay. The team of William Moninger, Coy Wardyn, Eli Coble, and Cruze Safranek posted a time of 44.55 seconds. Ashlyn Schauda was runner up in the girls 400 in a time of 1:04.02. Halle Quinn was runner up in the girls 800 in a time of 2:30.76.
