Broken Bow Competes at B-5 District Track Championships Today

Broken Bow will be among the teams scheduled to compete today at the B-5 District track and field championships in Aurora. Joining Broken Bow in today’s competition will be Adams Central, Aurora, Central City, Hastings, Holdrege, Lexington, Minden, Northwest, and York. The opening session of field events is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. and will include the girls pole vault, boys high jump, boys long jump, girls triple jump, boys shot put, and girls discuss. The second session of field events will begin around noon. Running events on the track are scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.

The top three places in each individual running event will qualify for the state meet. The next six fastest times of the non automatic qualifiers from all Class B districts will also qualify with a maximum of 24 qualifiers.

The top two places in each relay event will qualify for state plus the next four fastest times of the non automatic qualifiers in Class B with a maximum of 16 qualifying teams.

The top three places in the girls and boys long jump, triple jump, shot put, and discus will qualify for the state meet plus the next six top performances of the non automatic qualifiers across all districts. The top three places in the girls and boys pole vault and high jump will qualify for state. One must clear a minimum height of 9’6″ in the boys pole vault to qualify and a minimum height of 6’6″ in the girls pole vault to qualify. All competitors who equal or exceed the additional qualifier mark in the pole vault and high jump will also qualify. The automatic qualifying heights are listed below.

Class B boys pole vault – 13’2″
Class B boys high jump – 6’2″
Class B girls pole vault – 10’2″
Class B girls high jump – 5’1″

The 2024 Nebraska Class B state track and field championships will take place May 15th and 16th at Burke Stadium in Omaha.
